Sermon on the Mount
Its first audience was a powerless crowd living under Roman occupation, yet Jesus' teachings in Matthew 5-7 have influenced cultures for centuries. In this podcast series, Tim and Jon invite new voices into the conversation to help explore the Sermon on the Mount.
Throughout his life, Jesus exemplifies the attributes we know as the “Beatitudes.” Looking back on the day of his crucifixion, Christ portrays every aspect of the famed” Sermon on the Mount. These are not just words within a sermon. They make up “the” manual showing us how to live on earth, as disciples. This way of life is not intended for the general public. This is for the ones who want to enter through the narrow Gate. Those who choose to pick up their cross every day and die for Christ. These are warriors. These are God's People.
Jesus is talking specifically to his disciples. These are not recommendations, along with a general message intended for the public. He is not creating a new world order. What Christ is saying, presumably, is, “This is how life is supposed to be lived”.
In our Jesus Community, we believe in a unified bible study approach. In addition to reading, we look at imagery, which renders a complete storyline, revealing patterns that evolve into other perspectives and scenarios within each book of the Bible. Backed by Calvary Chapel’s Bible teachings and the late Chuck Smith’s audio sermons, all commentaries are reviewed for accuracy and merged to depict a path we should be following. Even more than the worldly concerns of securing our family tree every day. Not only should we be content and fulfilled by God's word, but through our faith, we should feel determined to live a life pleasing to the Lord. By focusing on God's desire for us to become a part of The Tree of Life!
During Jesus’s time, we know there was no TV, video games, or WIFI. Their main form of good entertainment and passing time was sharing the Gospel. In addition, biblical authors also shared knowledge, expressing imagery and recurring biblical themes to convey messages, which unlock the overall meaning of scriptures. My child stated to me, “God created us because he had no family.” I then realized that he was asking me, not telling me. I swiftly replied with a firm “YES!” This conversation got me thinking, what does God’s family look like from his eyes? I suppose it would be safe to say he sees it as anyone who enters into Heaven.
Jesus shared the two most important commandments: Love God, love your neighbor. LOVE is the key within both divine rulings. It is fair to say that how you love your neighbor reflects how you love God. If you look at the word of God from any other perspective, it’s safe to say you’re missing the entire point of the Bible. We are all family to one another. Believers and non-believers. But to those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, in some way, shape, form, or fashion, we are brothers and sisters in Christ.
As Christians, we should be displaying the gospel through our actions more than our words. We all have spiritual gifts. When we combine these gifts with other believers, we form the Body of Christ. Our combined effort seeks to shine a light on a hill so bright that others will follow by example.
This is “Sermon on the Mount”. Within it, Jesus provides the only sermon that explains and ties together the Old and New Testaments. He explains life and how to maintain a good one. This provides us with the only key that can open the narrow gate to Heaven here on Earth. Do you have a copy of that key? We all do. Whether or not we accept it, whether or not we use it, is strictly up to us. We must use the free will that we are given to take that leap of faith and choose the “Jesus way” Why are we listening to sermons from church leaders more than Jesus? What keys are given to us as Christians? What doors do they open? Follow Jesus, and he will teach us how to live and be a part of Heaven on Earth. In turn, we are experiencing and being taught how to enter God’s kingdom right here, now.
This sounds nuts, I know, however, when you slow down and hit pause, you have the opportunity to truly take in what Jesus is teaching. Along with prayer, you start to realize what Jesus refers to as Heaven on Earth. When Jesus says the kingdom has arrived, PAY close attention, because what he is saying is that Heaven has arrived in the here and now, and yes, Jesus has come.
Mathew 7 speaks of the narrow gate. The narrow part constitutes your decision to accept Jesus' teachings along with other followers, whereas the wide gate alarms us of the ignorance of those teachings, and ensures your path to utter destruction.
Jesus explains: Blessed in spirit = God's breath"
Matthew 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit.
◦ Powerless in religious structures and groups. They have no say.
◦ Discovering the truth about themselves
Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn
◦ Those who suffer in grief from death and loss.
◦ Seeing myself creates a brokenness in my heart to weep over my sins.
◦ Comfort will be restored after Heaven and Earth are one!
Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the gentle (unimportant), for they shall inherit the Earth.
◦ Unimportant shall inherit the Land. Once Jesus restores Heaven and Earth.
◦ Ideally, a meek person is not a person you would admire. In society, they are usually looked down upon.
Matthew 5:6 Righteousness. How do I relate to other people?
◦ Good life belongs to the lacking, hungry, and thirsty people who search for righteousness and understand the need to show up for one another to fill the emptiness in others. Immigrants, orphans, and widows always come first, being they are the weakest members of the BODY of Christ.
◦ You all have the best understanding of the need to do this for one another. The ones not doing this are unrighteous. That's why you're God's people. Only you can show the world how to live and experience Heaven and Earth NOW. That excites me, and I need you to show me the path!
◦ Seeing myself in light of the Lord. Creates a thirst for righteousness
Matthew 5:7 Merciful
◦ Forgiveness for someone who has wronged you
◦ Judging is not the way; it pays to be merciful. You may be taken advantage of, not deserving of your mercy. However, that’s God’s judgement, not ours. Be merciful and in error when being taken advantage of. It's much safer than judging, condemning, and being wrong.
Matthew 5:8 pure in heart
◦ Aligning your actions with pure Christ-like actions. Do because you do as God would. Not false acts that display to others, fooling the public, yet your cold-hearted inside
◦ Man sees outward when God sees our hearts. Purity of heart is the window to seeing God.
Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers
◦ Get into conflict to do Jesus' work
◦ Not absence of conflict but the presence of harmony. Peace is made, it’s not natural.
◦ As Christians, we should be peacemakers. Having these traits, others will prosecute you. You will lose more than you gain in worldly eyes. But blessed by God.
Matthew 5:10-12 Blessed are the Persecuted
◦ Entering into righteous crossfire is doing it the Jesus way; you will be misunderstood and not heard, just like Jesus. No matter how faithful you are, expect ppl to not care, want to harm you, or cause conflict.
◦ Rewarded in heaven after the kingdom has come. As the prophets will be rewarded.
Jesus will use these Beatitudes as the foundation for how He will live. Get ready for pain.
Matthew 5:13-14 Salt of the Earth, light of the Land
◦ Sacrifices to God (food)
◦ Covenant of Israel with God.
◦ Purify
◦ Food - Life
◦ Preserves
◦ Peace
Salt of the Earth and Light of the World, the city on the hill, are connected. The influence we should have is a preserving influence to prevent rotten meat in others. Salt creates thirst; when making others' hearts thirsty, then you know you're following Christ.
Israel was to bring their salt from (above) and light from (within to the nations. They were instructed to live by God's instruction and bring peace and justice, but they failed. You all are the Salt, the world's nobodies created from dust and the breath of God, to carry out this Covenant. A light house of how you should live with and relate to people in many situations. This wraps up the introduction of the Sermon on the Mount.
Matthew 5:17-20 Fulfillment of the Law to be Righteous.
Jesus explains how to live by such laws within a different timeline of his life. This even applies 2000 years later, by telling us the difference one wrong stroke can make. One wrong stroke can turn 'L’s into ‘T's. One wrong stroke, one missed detail in life, can make or break you. Jesus shows us a unified approach to harness the Bible in its entirety, so that we may live in righteousness. Pushing us forward, loving God and loving your neighbor is a life that fulfills the Tora. To do right by God and by others, now that is Righteousness. The law was to show you what is righteous and to show you that you are a sinner. If I'm a sinner, then I will seek God. If I think I’m not a sinner, I would never need Jesus. The law is good however, grace does not excuse me from the law.
In today's society, who are the Pharisees and Sadducees? Jesus had an issue with them teaching the scriptures incorrectly. It was all for show, prideful, and lacking sincerity in their hearts! In the eyes of Jesus, prostitutes had far more value.
Matthew 5:21-32 Do not Murder = Don’t be angry
Do not devalue one’s life with actions, thoughts, and words. We are the image of GOD. Life is precious, therefore, you must treat it as GOD would. When you are angry and upset, you’re already murdering.
Matthew 5:31-32 Sex, Adultery, Divorce = How were their 2nd wives?
To mentally envision a sexual desire with another, as if they exist merely for your sexual pleasures, is a Sin. To live out such pleasures even in your mind, then you are committing adultery.
Yet, to see and admire briefly, one of God's creations, that is not adultery. So long as it does not linger to lust in the heart and mind. Sin comes from the Heart and Mind. It’s only a matter of time before you step towards what is in your heart. Keep your Heart and Mind pure. You can be destroyed internally, and your eternal salvation is far more important than any worldly possession.
One would ask how many marriages would be saved if one lived like Abraham or Moses, with no more than two wives? No where in the bible does it state that you cannot have two wives. The Bible states you may not have many. Many, is more than two, and in the Bible that is strongly encouraged not to do.
My understanding is, If a man does not divorce his First Wife. He may choose to marry another. Nowhere in the Bible does it forbid us from doing so. Actually, If you marry a second wife, the Bible clearly says, “First wives inherit all rights for marriage.” Exodus 21:10.
Not to mention, there are many noble biblical characters in the bible that had two wives. In my opinion, it seems as though, in biblical times, the second wife would usually be a woman who is a widow and/or perhaps couldn’t necessarily take care of themselves.
The fact is, times were different from today’s views. If we are to live by the Bible we cannot manipulate God's word by rewriting alternative ways to do so based on today's standards. The bible is the truth, whether we like it or not. Since the Bible does not forbid a second wife then why is it frowned upon in today's times?
Genesis 3, it says to Eve, “and your desire will be to your Husband and he will rule over you.” As one. Once the apple was bitten into, Man and Woman, who were as one, began to separate, no longer being of one flesh. This is when exile began growing into a snowball of exiled communities.
Also why would Jesus say fornication was the only reason for divorce, if we are to be as only one flesh? Please pray and read your bible to confirm.
Matthew 5:33-37 Oaths Swearing = Simply say Yes or No
Look at the 10 commandments. Why are those the most famous? There is over 600. Not one is more important than the other. Until Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” This should be the hinging point to do what you say you will do without bringing Yahweh into it. If you make a vow to Yahweh, do it and do it quickly. You should not have to take an oath. If you are dishonest, then others might ask for an oath. Just let your yes be yes and no be no.
Matthew 5:38-42 Eye for an Eye = Stop vengeance from getting out of control.
We should use Jesus' wisdom to deal with controversy. It creates a standard to get what you deserve in a fair way of equal value, not as it seems to take an eye for an eye. We should resolve our issues with Love. Darkness cannot drive out darkness. Only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate. Only Love can fix vs worsen a situation.
Nonviolence is a sword that heals. Use your light of Love to shine to show others how to interact with one another. This is a creative non-violent way that tell someone. I’m not putting up with it, but I'm not going to treat you unkind! Back then, others would be obligated to knock out your tooth if that is what you did to them. Jesus is the only correct example of how to treat others. Therefore, anything not right is not Jesus. Don’t be entangled in worldly things that will destroy you when you lose something. When you help someone, it is a glorious moment to witness! Stop to help and evangelize! Shine your LIGHT. Do not fall into that's mine, possessiveness is a natural response rooted deep in us. Our Lord said, “Be free with what you have, don't cling to it.”
Matthew 5:43-48 love for Enemies = Creative Non Violence
The real enemy is not humans, it is toward the Evil powers of this world. For the kingdom of God to fully come on earth, you and your enemy must attempt and successfully learn together. Powers are the differences we fight over with one another, causing enemies, its satin’s motives. God's ppl they seek others’ well-being through peace and love. This is what Jesus stood for and lived by to show us how we should be treating one another. It’s a greater righteousness. It’s the new humanity. It's also the church leaders' responsibility, in Colossians 1, Paul tells us. We should be learning how to become part of the new community. So why do churches focus on teachings that mostly have impact, only to ripple within four walls to the same group of weekly people?
Jesus would not tell us to seek heaven on earth if it were not possible. If Jesus said it, it's true. Seek first the kingdom, and Jesus will provide. Teleios, coming to be everything I was made to be. A human who faithfully imitates the character of God. Love all, no matter who is standing in front of you. This is what our father does. God loves the sinner no matter what, and we are to love our enemies just like our Father. If you only love others who love you. You’re not proving a thing to anyone.
Matthew 6:1-4 Giving to the Needy = Hypocrite, pretending to do right.
You can do the right things for the wrong reasons and not even know it. Watch your motives. What you feel is doing right by God is not. You are building your life to climb the social ladder of pride. Doing righteousness in front of people can lead to your reward being the pride you receive in your community, vs your reward from God. God evaluates people who use their gifts well and then rewards them. Do for others because they need it, not to be honored by others, but only by God.
This is not your treasure, it’s the new creation and healthy relationships that will bring God's Kingdom to Earth. The Treasure is reflecting God's image. Who do you want to be honored by, your community or Jesus? It’s that simple. Ask yourself, who is truthfully most impressed by your Honorable deeds? Do not do the right thing for the wrong reasons. Do not do things to get a seat at the big table with others. Choose love and the rest will follow. When judged by God in heaven, we will lose many works that we have done. Our works will be tried by fire, burned in the trial like wood and hay. We should rebuke compliments and correct others to give them to God. In giving, leave the show behind. Do it from the backstage. God is the concert.
Matthew 6:5-24 Prayer, Fasting, and Treasure = Jesus prayed this prayer many times to prepare for his final stand
Prayer is a personal connection to God. Prayer is not for public display to be used for self-elevation. Chuck Smith was asked what the one thing you would do more of, if given the chance again. His response was “Pray more”. Fasting is reusing the time you would of for eating and being full, and taking that time to talk with God. Creating a thin layer to communicate intimately, to be heard, and to receive sooner what might be for you later down the road. Treasures, the new creation and healthy relationships that bring God's Kingdom to Earth, are our treasures. The Treasure is reflecting God's image. That is our Honor to be like our Father.
The Lord's Prayer, unpacked
This prayer is located exactly in the center of the Sermon on the Mount. The beginning and the end of the Sermon build up to the center to emphasize what's most important. We are expected to pray at least 3 times a day. Pray for our daily needs. Do not ramble, just say words. Get to the point, God already knows what you need.
Things to watch out for. Drawing attention to yourself during prayer. Stand taller with your hands raised higher in church when the rest are not. This brings the wrong attention. Our flesh loves this. If you are worshipping and doing more than others, standing on your tip toes, this is the attention your heart should not be seeking. Public prayer can be intended to impress man vs God. Don't let your prayers be heard out-loud directed towards man, let them be heard by God. Prayer is talking to the Father; prayer should be thought out and prepared well. Don’t waste God's time with vain reputations.
Chuck Smith's example prayer uses your hand.
Thumb = pray for your family tree
Point finger = pray for your teachers
Middle = pray for others in high places
Weak = pray for the weak
Pinky = pray for yourself
Prayer begins with a relationship. If you are not a child, talk to your Father. Then your prayer might become useless.
Enjoy the cake and break the fast. It’s not worth telling anyone you’re fasting, it brings attention in the wrong way to you with no reward. Impress people, that is your reward. Have your actions be to impress God, and you will be rewarded by God. Lay up treasures in heaven, vs sitting in a bank account, you cannot take it with you. In other countries, our money means nothing without doing an exchange for their currency. In God's Kingdom, our earth-bound value system equals zero.
A Bible story about a bookkeeper who was going to be fired. He cuts all bills and discounts them for all who owe him one day later. Some would say he is a crook. Jesus commended him for his wisdom for what he did to prepare for the future.
This is Jesus' prayer. A personal and intimate message to his Father. Think about this, we have his prayer to use for our own!
09. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Heaven is the Skies, which represents God's presence is everywhere. God appointed Humans, his beloved children, to use his wisdom to rule the earth in God's Holy name. Reverend in the bible is God's name. The only name that the bible says is Reverend is God's. No one else.
10. your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. = When we love God and our Neighbor, and treat others with God's generosity and justice. We are then starting to enter into God's Kingdom. This is a prayer to reunite Heaven on Earth.
11. Give us today our daily bread. = Jesus invites us to TRUST GOD and to ask for what we need daily. The husband must first partake of the fruit. Ask for what we need. We cannot do for others what we do not have ourselves.
12. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. = Forgiveness is like breathing, to receive God's forgiveness, you must be in the habit of giving it out. The two work together as one. The only one emphasized at the end. Forgiveness is mentioned throughout the bible. It means what it is saying. We must forgive! God forgives you many times over. It’s a matter of spirit.
13. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. = Humans were appointed to rule the world. This opportunity presented them with a choice. With every choice, there's a voice. Which do you prefer to listen to, our way or God's way? When we are tested, we need to ask God to deliver us from temptation.
14. For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. = God’s forgiveness for our sins, he sent his only son to defeat evil (raised from the dead). So the heavenly kingdom would come to earth. This is how God’s holy name was restored.
15. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. = The prayer invites us to daily trust God and to Love and forgive each other, so we can be apart of Heaven on Earth, becoming one.
Matthew 6:25-34 Do not worry = God gives what is needed
Do not worry about your worries. Give them to Jesus, he knows what we need before we do. First seek the kingdom of God and do right by God. All the needed things will follow. Tomorrow can worry about itself.
Life is more than eating, and life is more than dressing up. Don't worry about these things. Life is too important and too precious to God to let us worry. Our Father knows what we need. Seek the kingdom of God first, and all will follow to be in place. Our relationship with God should be number 1, period, above everything else. God will guide and provide.
Matthew 7:1-6 Judging Others = Don't Judge.
How you see matters, issues, and even ppl. This reveals your heart more than others' faults. How does your eye see? In Light or Dark, what you see is shown from your true heart when judging others. This can be scary. The way we relate to or Judge others is how we will be treated. Judging another for the same behavior can be evaluated differently based on your value system. Jesus warns us not to do this. This can lead to justifying our justice. Only God can reasonably judge us. We should be more helpful to each other to achieve our best judgment. There are times to judge and not to judge. Judging should be your last resort. It’s most likely that we are going to get it wrong anyway. God is complex! We are not meant to judge. God does and has done things in unthinkable ways. How could we have foreseen anything Jesus did? We are meant to remove wood from our eyes, showing our neighbors how to see the light.
When is it okay to judge others? Well, at times, you want to grab the apple and judge away. However, that's the issue; the tree of good and evil was never meant to be eaten from. We have made judging the most important thing in everyday life. Is this Good or Bad, no matter the subject? The Bible started with the warning Don’t do it. Yet we ate the apple, and separation began within all relationships, leading to exile time and time again.
If we are to be judged by how we judge. Then, would the flip side be the solution?
Judge urself in the manner by how you judge others first. Then you can inspire to help your neighbor vs judging them. Once you display your Light vs Darkness, your heart will reveal the path your eye sees. This is the image to pass on for others to see. That's removing wood from eyes. We are to elevate vs evaluate. Nonbelievers are not our concern, they are God's. Our first responsibility is to teach among the community of believers 1 Corinthians 5:12-13. We should be meditating frequently to use God's wisdom to effectively follow and deliver God's words. God's word in the Old Testament is knowledge far worth the value of pearls. We should only share our pearls with our brothers and sisters. Nonbelievers are fools who need Jesus and the Spirit to heal.
Overall, your actions speak louder than words. Displaying your Christian Light on a hill is key to changing others. Mostly, judging others should reflect such judgment upon ourselves. We should see others' darkness, teaching us how important it is to charge our light to shine bright. Others will see the light, and change will happen. Judging is for ourselves to improve ourselves through seeing others' foolish ways. In return, others see your light and learn for themselves. When the effort to change has occurred, that is when I feel we should share our pearls of knowledge with our true brothers and sisters. Everyone else, pray that they find Jesus. That's all you can do.
Most interrupt this as it is wrong to rebuke or to point out other people's Sins. It is not wrong to talk about the sin they are committing. Jesus says Watch out for false prophets. How are we to know unless we judge? The judgment of one's heart or actions is for Jesus to know. We are to forgive, not to judge what's going on in their heart. We are told we can judge the good fruit that is produced. We can observe to see if their actions align with scripture. Fall on grace and not judgment of others, or we will be judged when we need grace! We are all wrong and all sinners. We are setting the measurement of how we will be judged. People with hearts so gone they will turn the gospel against you. We are to witness to all, but it’s not our responsibility to bring them to Jesus.
Matthew 7:7-12 Ask Seek Knock = Gods Wisdom
A good father who gives good gifts. Jesus is showing us, God as Human Son, how to pray for things we need. This shows us how to have a connection of Love with our heavenly Father as Jesus does.
This works for Jesus a bit more than others. Jesus had such a bold faith in God, he would receive mostly what he prayed for. Is this why rewards may be limited for others? Are we rewarded equally for our faith given to our Heavenly Father? This may be why God puts us through tests. We are taught to rely on Faith to overcome our deepest fears. Are we rewarded by God for the grade we scored on the test of faith? If so, do you need to exercise your faith more? Maybe Wisdom is the most needed thing to pray for. With God's Wisdom, we can accomplish anything! Therefore, show your Heavenly Father you are in his likeness. Live by Complete Faith, and you will most likely be completely rewarded for the gifts you ask for.
You know how you would treat your kids. How much more would our Heavenly Father want to treat us? Give it to Jesus and be set free. Or drag the weight of the world and worry about your steps along the Journey of worldly desires. Faith is not hope nor wishes. Faith is knowledge that it will be done. Jesus rose from the dead by faith and prayer. Ask, Seek, Knock, and God has the same for us. The golden rule: Perhaps one of Jesus' most famous teachings. A few steps in the life of Jesus reflect: Store treasures in heaven vs on earth. Do not judge, or you will be judged. Treat others as you would like to be treated.
How should we live? One commandment out of over 600. What is the most important one? Jesus was asked. He said basically, love God and your neighbor as you would want to be loved.
My thoughts on this are;
Faith = In the beginning
Salvation = We all need Jesus
Pray = God's wisdom for choices
Love = Only way to live
Redemption = learn from your sins
Eternal Life = God's kingdom on earth
Chapter One of the bible, humans are made in the likeness of God. We know the number one commandment to follow is to love God and your Neighbor. This means how you love your neighbor is a reflection of how you love God. Since we are all made in the likeness of God. Be cautious if you are not living this way. You may just be lukewarm and stagnant. Jesus may just say I don’t know you, when you arrive at the narrow gate. We must live by God's desires, not our desires. Jesus prays our Father, not his Father. We are all one body in Christ in God's likeness, fighting a Spiritual War. How are you loving others as described?
Jesus is teaching his disciples. Not the general public. Only to those committed to be his disciples.
1. Deny himself
2. Take up his cross
3. Follow me
He is talking to the ones whose desire is for the kingdom of GOD. Who is committed to a selfless life, that man shall ask and receive. You will not receive lustful things, but prayers will be answered to aid others for your good works. How much more will we receive!
The final rule. This is it. Doing for others in what you would like them to do to you. The Golden Rule. It was Buddha who said this first: Do to others what you don't want done to you. Big difference. Buddha is negative. Jesus is positive. Review all asking, How do I want to be treated.
Matthew 7:13-14 Narrow and Wide Gates = Conclusion
The stakes are high. You have two gates and two roads to go down. Watch out for false prophets taking you down the wrong road. When you listen to Jesus, you build your life Strong to weather all storms, bearing good fruit. If Fruit sustains life, then we should bear fruit for others to eat, unless they are fools. This indicates a path into the Narrow gate. If it were easy, it would not be narrow everyone would enter. This is telling you BE AWARE of the Christian life you think that you live. I'm guessing, going to church every week and loving our family tree is falling way short. We were made and meant to be living in Eden. That's a garden with all growing as one, not just one family tree. God's People make up one huge Family Tree of Life in EDEN. I pray we all get there, amen. What seed will you be that was sown onto different soils, that Jesus referenced in Matt 13 to be a part of Eden?
Two paths; the broad gate is popular. Just cuz you're Christian and going with the flow of the world. Look at your path, and where is that leading you? Heaven on earth or for the sake of today, early. Earthly needs will ruin you.
What religion do I follow? Christianity is not a religion. Man attempts to reach God. Christians look up to God to touch them. It’s just not possible for man to reach God on their own. Religions are doomed to fail for that reason, leaving emptiness detached from God. Life is not happiness in material items. This is the negative outreach that causes sin to excel within our communities. The Spirit dwelling in us allows for power to walk in the life of the Spirit. Beware of religions, the wolves!
Matthew 7:15-23 True & False Prophets = Jesus by the Book
1. Deuteronomy 13 - Do not follow or listen if they are not for Yahweh alone and no other.
2. Deuteronomy 18 - If a prediction happens or not, it will show one's truth.
3. 2 Corinthians - If one is asking to be PAID. They are false prophets. When God guides,
God provides. How many churches do this?
Life choices over a long period that bear good fruit may be an indicator of true north. Who are sheep and who are wolves? Look for the ones aligned with God's desires. This is to live with the wisdom to fulfill the Torah. Who lives by the Torah? Some key components.
1. Love your neighbor as your self
2. Desires for others
3. Walk with humility and justice
4. Life shines bright.
These are just a few signs that will help show who may be bearing good fruit. So long as all aligns with your heavenly father’s desires. Look without judgment with your eye at the long patterns that conform to God's desires and align with the Torah. Bear your good fruit, or you will be chopped down outside the Narrow Gate. Talk is cheap, your actions are everything. That's how you will be wading. Not all who say Lord will enter, unless your works praise GOD and not others. In today’s world, many ask for money from the community of believers. If you have true faith, then GOD will supply what you need for his ministries.
Matthew 7:24-29 The wise and Foolish Builders = what's your choice
This connects us back to the narrow path that we choose to follow to enter the Gate. The house we build is our rest stop along the way. We must ensure we continue back on the correct path, once we exit to stop for rest. If our house can weather all storms. We are on the correct path. Don’t be hearers of the word, be doers and build strong houses for others, so they can do the same. This is a Jesus Community bringing life to the land.
Build places where God can reside and where Eden can spring to life. Jesus is describing this as a new humanity. Followers who live together by God's wisdom and Love. Creating communities of peace and justice amid violence and death. Let your choice be to build your lighthouse upon rocks to weather all storms for all to see and to be guided.
Remember, we are building a community within all relationships. If we build a Jesus community following God's desires, then we will start to experience God's kingdom on earth. Your foundation is Jesus Christ, the solid ground on which we stand. Not in the sand. Jesus says storms will come; your house cannot be built upon experiences and feelings. Our foundation must be found on faith. Everything else is misleading and will fall. You can stand on the right foundation. Afterwards, people were wowed, astonished, and taken by surprise by Jesus' Sermon. He taught in authority, not like the scribes who transferred the call to another department. Jesus answered the call and solved the issue AMEN
Mathew 10 - Jesus sends out the twelve.
He called upon the twelve apostles to fight various spiritual battles and granted them many gifts to fulfill their duties. Along with our innate talents, we also possess individual gifts, activated when we get baptized in the Holy Spirit. The essence of these gifts combined grants us victory over Satan simply because of Jesus.
Although Jesus had hundreds of disciples, only 12 were called apostles. The word “Apostle” stems from the Greek word “Apostolos,” meaning to be sent out. Jesus also gave each ambassador a nickname. For example, Simmons (translated as Simon) became Petros (translated as Peter), defined as the “Little Rock” in Hebrew.
The infamous 12 preached to Israel first, witnessing to the lost sheep. Initially, the promise of the Messiah was upon them. However, once Jesus was rejected by Israel, he instructed the apostles to preach to everyone, everywhere. Preach. The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, and raise the dead.
This was their ministry to Israel. They were not to use their powers for their benefit. They were more so to be used freely. They were given explicit orders from Jesus, to carry limited supplies, and also told them not to travel with money. Jesus had a reason for everything he did. So limiting their supplies would encourage their faith that God would provide them with all that they need.
Go out, and take nothing. Find those who are worthy in your travels. Arriving in each city, asking, “Who is worthy”? Apostles were instructed to “Abide” until they left. When entering homes of the worthy, they were to greet them and let or (feel) their peace come upon them. In cases where they felt uneasy, the blessing was returned. They were also urged by the Lord to never receive unless cheerfully given. They were sheep, fighting wolves, with satan’s tricks, yet remained pure as a dove. They were not untouchable. They all faced persecution of some degree. Yet, history shows they relied heavily on the Holy Spirit to address these issues and defend themselves individually during persecutions. Christians were, and still are to this day, frequently hated for their belief in Jesus Christ.
As Christians, we have a two-fold relationship with Jesus. As disciples, we are the students and the servants. First, we are to learn. Second, we serve. Overall, we are to be like Jesus. Sticks and stones may break bones, but not your soul; therefore, as followers of Christ, we shall fear no evil. Fear, only God, the one who can break your bones and soul. Commit your works to the desires of the Lord. Remain humble, with a thankful heart. Let the joy of the Lord be your strength. You may preach and teach wisely, but many will not accept it. Christianity divides homes when non-believers are living among believers.
Jesus identifies with us when we are rejected by the world. Our creator knows rejection all too well. When we give freely to others, even if it’s simply sharing our faith alone, then we are rewarded by God in return.
Matthew 13
As Jesus sat alone at the shore, the masses began to surround him, so Jesus entered the boat. The crowd gathered at the shore, eager to hear the parables Jesus sometimes told, in his efforts to spread the Love and the will of our Father in Heaven. Many hear, but do not understand. His apostles asked Jesus, Why are you talking in riddles? Jesus replied, It is given unto you to figure out the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven. Having a spiritual understanding takes faith and the holy Spirit within. A man who does not will not understand. Parables are understood by the ear of the spirit. The different types of soil represent the different types of believers. Jesus is unveiling the truth of the mysteries of the kingdom to his apostles. This was unclear even to the prophets of the Old Testament at that time.
The majority of the ones in the church are the ones being choked by the thorns. They worry more so about the cares of this world, just to get along, and to get ahead. The word of God is then choked out of their lives, making them bearers of bad fruit. He who receives the word understands it and brings forth good fruit. Next are parables related to the church. These show how having bad people in the church creates a bad influence.
Mystery of the kingdom of heaven. The mustard seed became a tree from abnormal growth. The church was rebuked by Jesus during his time. Afterwards, during church history, state and religion combined with pagan influences. Satan watered the church down, making the church less effective over time. The church will gradually become a great tree. Spreading its influence. The kingdom of heaven has an influence that started as a seed, “Jesus,” and continues to grow until all of the world has been permeated by the great tree. The church is not permeating. Contrarily, the church is being permeated by weakness, rottenness, and temperers of the word with misleading definitions of what the future is supposed to look like. The lord will let the good wheat grow with the bad seed until harvest. During harvest, only the good wheat will be saved by God, throwing the bad into the fire. To the Disciples; The apostles didn’t start to understand what it meant that Jesus sold all to purchase us (the one) and the world. He is redeeming us for our Father God. Our part is to bring forth the sharing of our treasures given to us from the Kingdom of Heaven. Which, I believe, starts to spread heaven on earth. This is the food that the great tree needs to grow, multiply, and be fruitful.
Mathew 18
Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? The apostles asked. God chose ordinary people to be disciples. Each was wondering who of them would be the greatest. Entering heaven is hard enough without worrying who is the greatest. Be humble to have the chance to enter the gates. We should have the faith and child-like heart that believes fully in Jesus. We should never destroy the faith of a child. Jesus placed great value on little children. When entering the Kingdom of heaven. The most important question stands. Where are we spending eternity? As flesh-driven humans, we are more prone to opt for worldly advantages rather than eternal advantages. You would be better to live crippled vs be lost in eternity. This represents how much more your spiritual health is valued over your actual health. Jesus taught that up was down and down was up. The gate is narrow, pray for God's wisdom to live a life, to ensure you enter into this narrow gate.
The poor man who lived outside the worldly gate went to heaven. The one who allowed the world to live in him instead of allowing the holy spirit to dwell within did not enter into heaven. Your downs in life are most likely not aligned with Jesus. You may not enter into the narrow gate with your name in the book of life. Do not end up in the fire of life. You'd better like the heat if you’re catering to the cares of this world. Go outside and talk to someone about Jesus in your child's like love and faith. You will feel the spirit and perhaps care more about the cares and desires of our heavenly father than of the world. Throw your cares and worries at Jesus' feet. He can handle it. We should be seeking the one lost sheep. Not worried about the ones that are safe and ok. When in church, look around. Who are we sitting next to, the healthy or the sick? In most cases, it’s healthy. Here is a key indicator that you are not, and I repeat, not, living by faith; therefore should evaluate your faith. If every Christian alive went up to a sick stranger and introduced themselves like we do in church, Oh my! That in itself could create a Jesus Movement. Sadly, we are more focused on just attending church. Guess what? That is a tool we use to fight satan, not a tool that enables our salvation. Our faith is not a get out of Hell free card. Nor is it a card which reads, THIS WAY, proceed directly to Heaven. With that being said. Do you go home after church, putting your tools in the garage? If that is your life, you may be a seed sown on the wasted side, producing bad fruit. Yet, sadly, this is the 75% that will miss the narrow gate. The other 25% have faith that supersedes worldly desires and those of the flesh. These are the people who want to live by God’s desires and not the desires of a weekly sermon given to you by those with flesh.
I recently witnessed a beautiful and effective way that we as believers can exercise our faith. I met a very shy woman whose mission was simple. Evangelize for Christ Jesus. Due to her shyness and fear of speaking publicly, she would write her testimony on an index card. Instead of striking up casual conversations of faith, she would walk up to people and hand them a bible along with her handwritten testimony. What a wonderful yet genuine way to share your faith with someone. Life as a Christian isn’t promised to be easy; relationships can become rocky at times. A broken relationship is best mended when you and your brother can work things out together. If not, take some time alone to talk further. Pray and ask for guidance. If nothing has changed, take it to the altar. At that point, if nothing has been resolved, it might be best to rebuke this person, for they are displaying signs that would make it seem as though they are not aligned with God.
How can we pray for others to accept Christ when they do not want to? As we are free of choice. God cannot enter unless we let him in. Therefore, be careful of what you bind or lose. Do not lose yourself to satan, only to wander in the dark for eternity, not seeing the truth. Only you can allow Christ into your life through prayer. Do not bind to satan, and miss out on Heaven.
If two agree by gathering and asking, then God's will is done. Or when two or more are gathered, Jesus is present. If you could see Jesus next to you, what would you say? We know if we could just see him, then we would truly believe he could heal anything. However, blessed are those who believe without seeing. We can do more than we think. Jesus is always there by our side. All of your sins have been forgiven completely. Jesus paid and forgave our debt. Yet we hold others responsible for what they owe us. Their debt to us is so minor compared to our debt paid by Jesus. We need to love and forgive as Jesus did. Forgiveness is a command from God, not a suggestion or option.
Mathew 24
Jesus was asked about the signs of the second coming and the end of the age. Do not believe in the fake miracles that false prophets and the antichrist perform, or else you will lose yourself to the beast. Look to the lamb, for your true faith will guide you. A world war will occur, and we have seen two. Are these defined as a sign? Another is Natural disasters, famines, and deadly plagues. Love will grow cold in the darkness. Sin is acceptable and instantaneously available within society. How far will this go before evil takes most Christians? God will allow the gospel to be preached to all nations to give everyone a chance to repent. Angeles will complete where the church fails to preach such a gospel. Is that because we are locked inside the church's walls every Sunday? Telling believers why they should believe in Jesus. Is that an oxymoron? As Christians, our main focus should only be to: Preach the Gospel, display love for all who are not evil fools, and continue to pray for our enemies.
Jesus commands us to understand Daniel. He said Jesus was cut off and the jews were dispersed. He goes on to say the temple will not have one stone standing on top of another. The last event is that the new temple will be taken over by the antichrist. This is the last straw for God. The wings of an eagle will come to protect the Jews. The Church may be raptured by flight by this point. Or pre-raptured? The city will be destroyed once all of God's people are removed. The lot was taken out of the city of Gomorrah before it was destroyed. Therefore, true faith in Jesus is the only escape from evil. More importantly, having true faith leads to us following in Jesus' footsteps. If you are not following, then you may want to question your faith. Remember, talk is cheap. Actions mean everything!
The False Christ will have a false prophet who will have others believe in him. Signs and wonders will arise, deceiving Christians. Do not be marked by the number of the beast. They will be so convincing that the elect will be in danger. Is that the church or the nation of Israel that is the elect? The Son of man will come in a flash. Armageddon will begin, and the vultures will consume the darkened fallen bodies. The entire earth and the universe will change. The punishment of the wicket and followers will be complete. As Christians, we will not see nor deal with this. We have a whole new Earth awaiting us.
In the New Testament, the church is the new elect. Jesus sends his angels out to the four corners to find the elect. This is the Church. In the Old Testament, the elect is the nation of Israel. Church leaders confuse which elect represents which testament, old or new. God is done with Israel; all the prophecies have been fulfilled. Now the church has inherited all the promises and is responsible for fulfilling God's desires. This is where some think the post-rapture after the tribulation comes from. Israel was the fig tree that never bore good fruit to please God and was cursed. The Gentiles were then chosen to bring forth good fruit for the church of God. The Jews maintained their national identity without a homeland for over 2500 years. No other nation has done this.
The word of God will never be eliminated. Heaven and earth will pass. No one on this earth or in heaven knows when Jesus will return, other than our Father God. It will be a surprise like the great flood of Noah. This will be after the church has been raptured and removed, and God has placed his judgment. Be on watch and do not get caught unaware, as you’re being focused on the cares of this world. Instead, focus on being ready for Jesus' second coming so you and your family are raptured. No one ever flies for free. Faith, as fully described in the Bible, will be the only currency Jesus will accept for your defense.
Be a blessed servant giving to the house of God. This keeps us focused on fearing God and being ready for Jesus' second coming. The antichrist will come first. Will we stand for Jesus and not allow the mark of the beast? Are you truly willing to die for Christian beliefs, like the martyrs did in the early church? Or will we be the hypocrites and give in to the beast? Ask yourself a tricky question. Have you already started the process? Have you been fooled by the beast? If you’re only sitting in church and caring about your family tree, you may likely in danger, my brother and sister. We need to wake up, take this seriously. Go and do what God desires. One is Love, two is to spread the gospel to everyone. Interesting versions of the bible being told around the world are not the way to preach and teach. Ask yourself, do you fully understand life after death? Do you understand you’re not going to heaven by living inside the four walls of a church? Our creator, our Lord, our King, gave to us the Sermon on the Mount. This specific sermon contains the essence that ties the entire bible together. More importantly, it is the best instruction manual on how to live here on Earth and get to Heaven, where we will see God’s Kingdom come. So why are there endless sermons given by men and women each Sunday, depicting what man thinks we should be learning? A true pastor should be leading the 99 sheep to heaven by way of the Sermon on the Mount. The 99 sheep need to find the lost ones by spreading the Gospel! Watch and be ready.
Mathew 25
Most of the parables have one thing in common. Human error, we go down the rabbit hole, hearing parables. We should look at the overall illustration of the point being made. The beginning parables illustrate the importance of finding the lost. This alone brings God much enjoyment!
Beware, parables can be misleading. Why? Because of man trying to symbolize and spiritualize the wrong things at the wrong times. In which case, you can pull almost anything from said parable. You can be misled by spiritualizing scripture. God means exactly what he said. When you get a new idea or thought, ensure that scripture backs it up. This way, your lamp will have oil. If your lamp is out of oil, you will not be recognized by our Savior.
Oil is a symbol throughout the bible And other historical texts. Especially anointing oil, because it represents the Holy Spirit. The main point is to be ready and do the will of our Father. The Holy Spirit is what keeps us on track. Make sure you are walking with the Spirit.
Before Jesus stepped up on the cross to depart. He gave us the wealth of knowledge contained in the gospel. His servants should take such wealth, multiply it, and spread the wealth to others. If you can do nothing with such wealth, by playing it safe, our lord will hold us accountable for what we have done with his wealth. Christians will stand upon the judgment seat of Christ. Our labor should reflect our true faith. On the day of reckoning, prepare your case to represent good works that withstood the trial by fire. As long as God receives the rewards in return for your good works. If God cannot trust you with small earthly tasks, how will he trust you in the kingdom of God? If you are faithful, success has no measure unless God entrusted you with more gifts and responsibilities to fulfill. This may sound difficult, however, the Spirit guides the true believer. Do not be lazy and wicked, hiding your wealth that you were entrusted with, by only sitting in church and caring about your family tree. You will be cast away into darkness. It’s far better to try than to hide.
Now for the final part of the judgment of the world. God will judge the world after the great tribulation. This will be for the rejection of his son and the wickedness that exists within the world. Once Jesus returns with his church. He will reestablish his rule. If allowed to enter into the narrow gate, you will most likely return to the Garden of Eden to start over in harmony with God.
What we do for others who are less fortunate, and in true need, those are the things we must do as if we did it for Jesus. Not doing these things is essentially rejecting Jesus. In turn, you will be rejected by Jesus. All people will be gathered and sorted by good or evil. Will you be allowed into God's kingdom or cast into the eternity of darkness?
